My main interest is light and atmosphere and how these factors may change even the most familiar of landscapes.
Using sketches, photographs and memories, paintings are created mainly in the studio, some taking many months to complete.
The initial subject is sketched in quite boldly and then work upon over and over again using thin washes to create ethereal images, some unrecognizable from the initial starting point.
Although all my work is based on a real landscape it is not a likeness which I am attempting to capture but a feel for that particular place. In this way the paintings evolve over a period of time just as the landscape itself is constantly evolving.
Most of my work is based in Shropshire, Staffordshire and the West Midlands
